Introduction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry of Culture and Media invites all national and local institutions in the field of culture and cultural heritage to participate in the celebration of International Museum Day on May 18, 2023, through the organization of activities and program contents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The established practice of the event is that the museums, as part of the celebration, are open until late in the evening and that interested visitors are allowed to view their program content free of charge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The International Council of Museums (ICOM) has been celebrating International Museum Day (IMD) since 1977, which represents a unique moment for the international museum community. The aim of celebrating Museum Day is to raise awareness of the importance of museums as a means of cultural exchange, the enrichment of cultures and the development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace between nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Activities organized on the occasion of the celebration can last a day, a weekend or a whole week. This year's theme is \"Museums for Education and Research\", which emphasizes the key role of cultural institutions in providing holistic education. Museums serve as dynamic educational hubs, encouraging curiosity, creativity and critical thinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participation in the event<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Participation in the event is an opportunity for participants to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Implement partnerships with schools, associations, libraries, other museums, etc.;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Advocate for a more important role of the museum in the social community by informing the institutions of local and national authorities about their activities and pointing out their importance for the general public;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Spread information about International Museum Day through local press, social networks and websites;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Make their activities internationally visible by sharing information with ICOM on events marking the IMD.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
